Saihi Urushi Ao-age Raden
Saihi Urushi Flourished in Huizhou, China during the Song Dynasty, and was considered a Royal Art and only a few common citizens could lay their hands on. Saihi Urushi techinique was heavily gaurded and kept secret by Huizhou Artisans to the point it was rarely practiced during the 20th century.
Saihi Urushi is not only a painstaking process but also requires a very distinctive material, Raw Natural Urushi which has a very distinct color, bold texture, & semi-matte finish that over time and with use will become brighter and glossier.
Note* Making the Saihi Urushi requires many handcrafted steps, the final step of polishing is very moderate in order to maintain the pattern as such a few steps of the process can still be seen on the pen’s surface. These are not defects but a part of the handcrafted charm.
