Wisteria (Glicine), a small climbing plant that color the city with clusters of lilac flowers, bloom in Bologna with the arrival of spring.
Native to China and Japan, wisteria was introduced into the gardens of Europe, starting with those of England, in the 18th century and soon became among the most popular and appreciated exotic plants because of their spectacular and fragrant blooms.
