The idea behind the TWSBI Diamond 530, 540, and 580 was to go back to basics and capture the simplicity and elegance of traditional writing instruments. In recent years, the development and modernization of writing instruments has resulted in traditional writing instruments, such as fountain pens, falling into obscurity. It was TWSBI's goal to bring the past back to life by creating a traditional fountain pen that even modern day society can appreciate.
TWSBI Diamond 580, a classic fountain pen with a piston ink-filling system. By fusing the traditional mechanisms of the fountain pen with a modern industrial design, they have created an eye-catching fountain pen that is simultaneously appreciative of the past and relevant in the present. The Diamond 580 comes with a benchmark ink-filling mechanism and has all detachable parts. TWSBI felt that it was important to allow the user to disassemble and reassemble the pen and completely experience the traditional aspects of owning and using a fountain pen.

It also comes equipped with the Slip & Seal Mechanism, which prevents the ink from drying out inside the pen even after a year without usage, providing a stress-free, smooth writing experience at any time. Unlike conventional Maki-e, it is applied with silk screen printing instead of Urushi lacquer on the underlayer, which is then sprinkled with colored powders such as gold and silver and hand-finished one by one by Maki-e artisans. It gives more thickness compared to normal printing, while the reflections and shades of the powders create a three-dimensional feel

Pen Options:
Tachibana (Citrus): Tachibana is the only wild mandarin orange in Japan. Koi no Taki-Nobori (Carp climbing up a waterfall): Carp with strong vitality is considered the chief river fish. And it is also said to be an auspicious pattern that symbolizes success in life, based on an ancient Chinese story that says, "A carp that climbs a rushing waterfall ascends to the sky and becomes a dragon."
Nasu (Eggplant): The Japanese word Nasu is a homophone that means “things will go well” and “success,” and people have loved it as a pattern that brings good luck.
